Simulate my Smile!Save Your Teeth with a Root Canal Treatment
We recommend a root canal treatment when the pulp of a tooth has been infected, causing severe pain and other potential dental problems. This kind of infection is often the result of deep cavities or fractures that allowed it to spread to the pulp, potentially killing it. At Madison Smile Solutions, though, we can help you alleviate the pain and save your tooth.
If this infection is not immediately treated, it can gather at the root tip and move into the jawbone where it can abscess and build up pressure and cause serious pain.
Many people assume that a root canal procedure is very painful, but the fact is that the treatment is about relieving the pain.
You don’t have to “just deal with it” anymore. Contact us today to set up an appointment and find relief today.
How a Root Canal Procedure Works
The procedure starts with detailed X-rays that allow us to see the shape of the canals and find any hints of infection on or around the bone surrounding the root.
We’ll then use an anesthetic to minimize discomfort before opening the top of the tooth to get to the infected area.
We use tools that are less invasive than those that were used in the past, and this lets us create an access hole so the pulp, bacteria, and decayed nerve can be removed. The next step is to clean the tissues and root canal spaces before filling it with a material that will prevent future infections. It will then be sealed with a post and/or porcelain crown.
While your individual case may require some extra steps, this is generally what you can expect from the procedure. When it’s done, your tooth can be restored to its normal strength and functionality.
Do You Need a Root Canal?
Sometimes a toothache is just a toothache, but there are some signs that might indicate it’s time to call us and set up an appointment for a root canal. Watch out for these symptoms:
- Severe tooth pain when you chew
- Severe sensitivity to hot or cold (this pain continues even after you’ve removed the source of the heat or cold)
- Tender and swelling gums
- Recurring pimples in the gums
- Your tooth becoming dark or discolored
Contact Us to Eliminate the Pain
Modern dental techniques have made root canal procedures simple and no more uncomfortable than many other dental treatments.
You don’t have to “live with it” until the pain “goes away,” because if bacteria has hit the root, it’s probably not going to go away on its own.
